IHF SLOVENIA

It is a governing body, responsible for ice and inline hockey in Slovenia. Its senior national team has been declared a winner of Slovenian Team of the Year Award three times: 2013,2014 and 2016. One of its greatest successes is representing the country in the Olympics twice: in Sochi in 2014 (placed 7th) and in Pyeongchang in 2018. The federation has developed strong ties with neighboring ice hockey federations, establishing multiple regional competitions: International Hockey League and Alpen Hockey League. As a consequence, Slovenian clubs participate in competitions with Austrian, Hungarian, Slovak, Italian and Croatian clubs. IHF Slovenia has also successfully implemented European Rookie Cup project (which was funded by Erasmus+). Among its main activities are: organization of club competitions, overall organization of National Team and education of athletes, coaches and both on and off the ice officials.

IHF BIH has been a member of IIHF since 2001, however hockey exists in the country since 1957. Bosnia hosted Winter Olympic Games in 1984, but both hockey arenas had to be rebuilt after the war and the siege of Sarajevo. It has formed a new hockey league for future generations of hockey players (BHL), which had 4 teams for the 2010/11 season. BiH regularly participates at senior IIHF World Championship.

IHF CRO is a non-profit sport organization. Became member of IIHF in 1992, its men’s team plays in Division I, Group B. Its key activities include organization of clubs competitions for all categories, overall organization of National team and to educate athletes, coaches and both on and off the ice officials.

Macedonian Hockey Federation organized its first national championship soon after gaining its independence, however the championship hasn’t taken off since recently (2013), when Macedonian ice hockey was revived. Four clubs (Metalurg, Vardar, Favorit and Skopje) played in the national championship thus reviving the hockey in Macedonia. The greatest obstacle for further development is lack of proper infrastructure (ice hockey rinks) and enough ice time for all the programs. The organization also has many young and willing people, who are eager to develop the sport in the country.

The Federation has prepared a five-year plan (2015-2020), in which it focuses on growth and development of ice hockey (mostly on younger generations- U8, U10 and U12). It also wishes to develop women hockey and grow an overall popularization of the sport in the country. Among its goals is also building more small-sized rinks (increase the number of ice rinks and locations/cities, where ice hockey is available). The organization has both participated and successfully organized many Championships (Division II) and Tournaments.

It was founded in 1912 and is one of the oldest IIHF members. Its priorities include promoting hockey for kids, youngsters and professionals as well as promoting both men and women hockey. It organizes all national teams’ programs and coach education for all levels. Additionally, it organizes youth leagues for different age groups. Recently, IHF AUT has been working on setting up school-sport cooperation. The main aim of the cooperation is to support both development in school and in sport. To develop ice hockey, IHF AUT works with Austrian Olympic Committee, EBEL (International hockey league), other ice hockey federations and regional federations.

The Sport Institute of Finland is a national coaching and training centre for sports and physical education. It develops, produces and markets high-quality coaching, training and education services for national level and international level. The mission of the institute is to provide education and development services for training and coaching. Operating from the Institute is International Ice Hockey Centre of Excellence, which is nationally and internationally significant centre of education and expertise. It focuses on developing ice hockey and additionally, developing and maintaining training and coaching material, related to ice hockey. Cooperating with Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, the Institute aims to bring knowledge and skills from multicultural learning.

Founded in 1919, University of Ljubljana is the oldest and largest higher education and scientific research institution in Slovenia. It is amongst the top 500 Universities in the world (according to the ARWU Shanghai, Times THES-QS and WEBOMETRICS). It participates in many European and worldwide partnerships and works actively in national and international R&D and educational programs. The University cooperates with private sector, being the founder of Slovenian Innovation Hub, and has also founded University incubator, the Institute for Research and Innovation and the SMUL network. Participating in this program are two members: Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Sports.

International Ice Hockey Federation is the world governing body of ice hockey. It was founded lin 1908 in Paris, France, and to this day, features 76 member associations. It controls the international rule book, processes international player transfers, dictates officiating guidelines, runs various development programmes , which are designed to bring hockey to broader population. Each year, with cooperation of regional organizing committees, organizes different World Championship for five different categories. Beside that, it also runs a set of European club competitions and a World Championship in inline hockey.
